There’s a lot of talk in Riddle about changing traffic laws, enforcing city ordinances and building new sidewalks…

Which is good, in a way. But I want to know, when we’re going to stop tearing our community apart? When are we going to stop fighting over the little things? When are we going to come together instead of pushing each other away?

We’re a town divided and the gap is growing larger every day. It was commented on recently that our town cannot grow any larger, which indicates we are pretty much stuck the way we are. Including being ’stuck with’ the people who live in this town. So why do we try to alienate them?

Everywhere I turn there’s another scandal, another fight. We’re taking money away from our Fire Department and arresting the fire chief, yet we expect them to get up, stop work and come save us when we need them. Why? Why rely on them when they cannot rely on us.

We ARE a community. A group of individuals banded together in this town to live, work and exist together. If we cannot pull together and bridge this gap between Riddlites, then the town will die. Next generations will learn that they are not welcome here and move away.

I should know, I was pushed out of this town once upon a time by the treatment of the members of this community. I already wonder if raising children here is the right choice.

That’s not to say that I don’t love this town and it’s members, because I do. That’s why I returned. So I offer my hand, to the store owners, the city officials, the fire department and the community members reading this. Let us move in a new direction, for a new Riddle.
