A list of fanfiction related terms originally compiled by catkind with additions from me (please note it was started by HP fans but everyone's welcome to add on!):



fic - story
oneshot - short fic
ficlet - even shorter fic
drabble -
this one probably fits on one screen
cookies - drabbles by any other name -

rec - recommendation, only I don't know

review - please feed the author
concrit - constructive
criticism - please feed the author codliver oil

canon - the hard stuff
OC - original character - sex may be

The Bad
Place: Often refering to chan or underage characters (below 16yrs in the HP
world).

Love it. And sadly I can't think of any to add. No. That's not true.

Troll -- a fic so bad that it is assumed the author wrote it that bad on purpose (as a joke)

I have never heard "Troll" used as a referance to purposely done bad fic. Those are usually termed..."bad fic".

I HAVE heard/used it in referance to someone purposely joining a list/board/ect in order to flame/mock/generally annoy the fuck out of members (also called 'spammers'), popular in the Buffy and Harry Potter fandoms.

And thus leading to my favorite HP moderator calll: "TROLL, in the dungeon/chatroom/board/list."
