There's a certain magic...

saitainain laying outside on a cool summer night on a blanket with your oldest (and laziest) cat, watching a snail as it slowly mendures it's way through the grass. The snail's life is so small, so fragile, one mis-placed step can end it, and yet it carries on, un-aware, just doing it's snail thing.
It was so quiet tonight, I could almost hear the snail's whisper of 'just a little further' as he edged so slowly over twigs and leaves, hiding whenever four paws ran past him from the younger, more active cats. So peaceful, that little snail and his little quest of traveling across the huge yard, wherever the wind (and vibrations of danger) took him.
It was like watching my beehive* earlier today in the hot sun, so many bees, floating around, darting in and out of their home as they headed off to the clover flowers in the backyard and back again. Their lives so far removed from my own, and yet seperated only by mere feet and bound by that moment I stood watching them live.
And of course, the louder, laughing joy of watching four cats in their natural habitat of night and the outside, running and jumping over each other, tumbling over the gravel only to dart back up and chase their attacker. Even the simple moment of catching them at the 'watering hole', their eyes darting around for signs of 'danger' as they drank.
So many small moments, small lives interconnected without even knowing it, each a small piece of the fabric of the universe, closely contained, and still a reminder of something far greater.
*A colony of bees has taken up residence in my garage wall, building their hive inside. They don't bother me, and there's still a honey bee shortage so I don't bother them. Wish they'd leave me a honey comb or two as rent, but oh well. *grins*
