I read not to long ago that scientists may have found the gene which causes aging. Imagine living in a world where human life can prolonged for many many years.
That day is coming. The effects of aging are being decreased every year, and humans are living quite a bit longer then we did just 50 years ago. Centenian's are increasing and diseases are being erraticated at impressive rates.
The main things is though, that old killers (Black Plauge, childhood diseases such as mumps, influenza and polio) are gaining a new foot hold and new killers (AIDs, Cancer, and super germs) are ever growing.
Not to mention, with the advances of medicine and technology, people are dying of things such as obesity, heart disease and cancers that are preventable.
So it'll be a while before a balance is found, but I predict, in the next century (or even less), the average life expectancy will be 90-100.
(And yes, I'm one of those who dreams of immortality, if just to see where the future takesus)
