I’m too lazy to put spoiler spaces in my own journal so you have been warned.

first off, let me just say that yes, I am one of those who first only saw LotR’s for Orlando. I originally thought the books were stupid and had no intention reading/watching until I saw enough of Orlando/Legolas to compel me to go. And most of John’s talking about how hot he was.

That said, and the fact that I’m stuck in the middle of Two Towers, should tell you I had no clue what was coming in Return of the King beyond what people had mentioned (such as knowing Frodo lost a finger).

Initial impressions were pretty much gaping and cheering along with the rest of the crowd (hehe, I love the hobbits…)

Now, after it’s sunk in a bit, I must say, not what I was expecting. While the movie, visually, was great, the story left me…wanting. And not just for Aragorn to kiss Legolas at his crowning (you slasher’s know what scene I speak of).

I really expected more from Frodo, whose supposed to be the good guy. Yes, I know it’s a bad evil ring but Frodo really did fail in his quest if you just go by the movie (dunno what happened during the book after all). It seemed, to me, the only reason the ring ended up in the lava was due to Frodo being really pissed Golum snicked his ring. Not exactly the hero everyone’s made him out to be.

But beyond that, the acting was incredible, from Sean A. to the guy who plays Denethor (who seriously freaked me out, was quite happy when he took a header off Minas Tirth). The only person I could have done without was Liv, completely un-nessassary really. And maybe Rosie because we all know Sam belongs with Frodo.

I only have one real complaint about the movie beyond the whole Frodo=hero thing. Legolas needed shorter tunics. I know, horribly fan girly of me but really, he did. :o)
