A year from now...
Aug. 7th, 2007 11:03 amAt this time next year, I will have decided, and hopefully picked up the packets to officially file as a mayoral canidate for the town of Riddle, Or.
I suddenly wish I had a crystal ball so I could know what my desicion turned out and I wouldn't be constantly wondering.
I want to do it, I've had four years to make this choice and I REALLY want to do it. I'm just...scared out of my bloody mind. I have no idea what I'm doing, I was choosen by the buisnesses of Riddle as their canadate to 'make changes'. But they don't exactly have lessons to prepare you for becoming a mayor in school, I wouldn't even know what to day the day after the election (er, If I won, I know what I would be doing the day after if I lost).
But then again...this town needs someone new. Someone who isn't bogged down by the politics of living here, someone who doesn't toe the line of the City Council and is willing to fight for what we need. Someone who actually shows up and gets shit done, not take vacations every time something's going on.
I want to turn the old grocery store into a skate park for kids (ramps and all, with a shades area for parents/younger kids). I want to revitalize downtown, not with crappy flowers, flags and the 'pocket park', but by working with the shops, supporting our new buisnesses, repealing the 'no loitering' ordanence and trying to bring in more buisnesses to get people downtown and shopping.
I want to sell the land up the hill that the city owns to build housing for our town to expand a bit (there was a recent hoopla about how our town can't grow yet more people are moving in...it could grow if we release some of the land the city is sitting on and doing nothing with, to build more houses, giving the small families of this town a chance to own their own homes instead of renting.
I want to re-do the city ordanences to get rid of what is really making this town ugly, instead of picking on the innocent home-owners. I want to fight the meth flooding our town and give the people a chance to not only get clean but get a better life. I want to work with the school board and schools to eradicate the bulling that is epidemic and get kicks back on the right track to a decent education.
I want to work with the church groups and the senior groups to build a community vegtable garden with the 'fruits' of the labor going to the food bank.
I want to shake up this sleepy town and make them realize that they can't keep ignoring the problems and only focusing on their own life. We're all here together and it's time we acted like a god damn community instead of a group of strangers forced to live together.

Date: 2007-08-08 08:22 pm (UTC)Mum's having issues though. She originally wanted me to run but now that it's down to the wire, she's waffling about it. You know I'm a mama's girl so I'm trying to make her happy which means I may end up not running.

Date: 2007-08-08 09:38 pm (UTC)And, I leave all old men to old women. There is no interest there for me.
In the old women, either. Gross.

Date: 2007-08-14 03:20 am (UTC)still.
after this summer, i have developed a touch of interest in politics, so your plans and goals caught my attention and have moved me enough to comment.
i have a few college text books for political science that might help you to educate yourself on processes and whatnot. granted, they're texas themed books with texas ordinances and whatnot, but they could still serve as a good starting point for getting into the swing of the political process and some ideas as to what to expect. i could send them your way if you would like, free of charge.
shoot me an email or something if you're interested.

Date: 2007-08-15 10:58 pm (UTC)Obviously it had no real effect on your ability to comment as you do it anyway, so I'm probably going to recind the banning as it's in-effective. I'd just rather you not reply to my rantings since...yeah, I love you but I don't like feeling like worse shit when you comment.
I would love the books if you're really willing to part with them, do you still have my mailing address or do you want me to email that?
