I'm usually not one for fandom tattoo's either, especially since my tastes change rapidly, but I figured if I've wanted it for six years, I'm not going to suddenly change my mind the next day.
Aww and geeze, I thought I could get it removed tomorrow when my mind randomly changes.
No shit it's going to be around forever, not sixty years considering by then my body will be decayed and given current burrial rites in America, my body wont' be mummified, but I do realize I'm stuck with it. And while it may be Harry Potter related, I did break it down and look at it's individual components to see if I could live with it. I happen to like both skulls and snakes (well, pictures of snakes, can't stand live ones), so it's not going to bug me twenty years down the line to find it on my arm on morning.
I'm not some stupid teenager getting the tattoo while drunk and later mourning the idea, I've thought about this for quite a while, many times over as well as discussing it with friends and family. The desicion was made well informed and knowing I couldn't take it back unless I wanted to cause more damage to my arm. The idea and memories the tattoo represents will be there even decades down the line and the physical memory of my friends and time spent will be nice.
You may not have intended your words to be belittling and rude, but it felt to me as if you thought I put no time and effort into the decision and got it on a whim, which is not the case (well, mostly, I did choose the tattoo artist on a whim after inspecting his shop but the choice of getting the tattoo has been a long time coming).
Anyway! I'm glad you think it looks good, I'm rather happy with it myself and think I may go back next year (or whenever we get back down that way) to get the rose tattoo I want (and have wanted for over a decade).
I'm sorry that you felt my words came across like that - it was meant in jest. I never thought that you were some drunk teen who did it on a whim and would live to regret it. I happen to be a big fan of tattoos myself and am all too aware of the time and effort that needs to go into a choosing a design due to the permanence of them, having been seeking out my own perfect design for the tattoo I want. I happen to think it is a very neat design and something that will give you many happy memories in the years to come, be it six or sixty!
I hope you find or have already found a design for your rose tattoo that will bring you equal pleasure and that the artist does an equally good job.
*headdesk* sorry, I'm techy tonight...probably because I've been sick for so long.
I haven't found a design yet, but I know I'm going with the same tattoo artist and probably doing another black outline design (like the dark mark), since I'm leary of coloured tattoo's. I don't want my colour to be faded and depressing as I age, at least with blacks they sort of grey out which isn't so bad.
You may have asked already, but if you haven't, ask the guy about "touch ups" - apparently some artists will give discounted rates or something similar to touch up the tattoos they did that have faded out with time. I'm not sure of the exact details, but that's what I've read in various places! :)
I'll ask him when I go back this summer or next (mum's saving up to get her own tattoo's now, a pooh and tigger on her arms to cover some old scarring).
...I cant' stop staring at my tattoo, it's still so new to me.
Eeeee, I <3 it. The tattoo looks great. I'm sure you won't regret getting it cos you put a lot of thought into it. Me and Paris give it two thumbs (well, four) up!
The artist did a great job with the detail work. :D I'm glad you got it though, considering you've wanted it for quite a while. I end up doing the same. Like if I want to buy a book set, I usually buy it like two years after I've declared I want it. :P
