Pluralverse: You and I
Dec. 17th, 2006 12:08 pmPart of
ickaimp's "Plural" 'verse. If you are unfamiliar with the series, then you would be horribly lost.
Originally inspired by Icka's B&W hints, re-designed and formulated by joisbishmyoga's “Lucid” chapters.
Set before “Lucid”
There was a flutter of a curtain, and the soft thump of a shoe sole hitting a tiled floor. It was followed by another soft thump, and then the sound of cloth sliding over metal. The figure turned, closing the window again, using a small tool to screw back in the latch before grinning at a perfect entrance. No evidence was the key of a good thief after all.
Black to Blue.
Why are we here again? Haven't we already been here a few times? It doesn't help.
Blue to Gold.
Considering we're here in an...alternate uniform, I suspect nothing good.
Gold to Green.
Anyone notice if he grabbed toothpaste or shaving cream as he dressed?
Green to Gold.
I'm afraid I was otherwise occupied while he was preparing.
Blue to Green
With what? Watching?
Kaito moved carefully forward, each step placed with perfect care and precision to remain silent. He had long since adapted to the voices in his head, even if part of him still silently screamed against the invasion of the detectives.
But the stress of trying to ignore them at the moment, was making a headache throb at his temples. He shoved the pain aside, instead focusing on the bed before him, adding the other two in the room to the list of things to ignore at the moment.
He grabbed the visitor's chair, pulling it over to the bed and straddling it backwards, staring down at the face of the boy in the bed.
Green.
I'm surprised he didn't pull a chair out of his a...
Green to Gold
Don't finish that sentence, Hattori-san.
Kaito knew, rather obviously given his situation, that the boy was no longer in the body on the bed, but for tonight, that didn't matter. What mattered what what he saw, what he felt, not what knowledge, of any form, resided in his head.
“I miss you,” he said softly, seriously, his hands adjusting the blankets around the body, tucking and smoothing them, trying not to think of the actions as nervous puttering, but simple care.
Blue/Green.
What the...
Green.
If this is a love confession, I want an exit out of here!
Blue.
Agreed. We DON'T need to be here for this.
Gold.
Please do be quiet.
“I miss...I miss seeing you. Just seeing you, sitting there in class, or at a heist. I miss...” Kaito trailed off, staring at the pure, crisp white blanket, swallowing, shoving his emotions down, hiding them under the mask of 'Kid'. “You were always there.” he breathed, gathering enough control to look up at the relaxed face of Hakuba Saguru. “Always there...right behind me, watching me, chasing me, studying, dissecting me...”
He reached out, gently taking the blond's limp hand, gently massaging it with this thumbs as he focused on the fine lines and patterns that made up the boy's skin. “I always hated it, hated you being there, hated how close you came, how hard it was just to EXIST without you breathing down my neck. I never thought I could miss it this much.”
Kaito threaded his fingers between the detective's, squeezing their palms together. “It physically hurts, not having you here, it's as if an actual apart of me, is missing.”
Gold.
But...I AM here...
Blue.
But, it's not the same, is it Hakuba-san? We're here, we're with him, a part of him, but we're not with him, a part of his life.
Green.
He can't touch us, hit us, hug us...to him we're just an endless stream of commentary and constant eye colour changes. We're not real, tactile.
Gold.
But the fact remains, he never did any of that before, so why would now be so different?
Green.
Because before he could if he wanted. But now, he has no choice in the matter. Think about it, how would you feel if you could no longer touch Watson, or your father, or mother? If Nakamori-chan suddenly vanished...or even Kuroba himself? How would you feel if you suddenly lost them in a real and physical way?
The voices in his head went thankfully silent and Kaito re-enforced his mental 'block' against them. He could still hear them, still be effected physically by them, but his focus was turned away from them, dimming them to background noise.
“Ever since we met...you've frustrated me, fascinated me, annoyed me, scared me..you made me love you.”
Blue and Green.
Didn't need to know that, didn't need to know that, didn't need to know that...
“I wish, so deeply that things could have been different, that our lives...our roles could have been different. We could have been great, even with the stick up your 'arse'. We could have been more then rivals, more then opposite sides.”
Still Blue and Green.
Don't want to hear this, don't want to hear this, don't want to...
There were two slight thumps with whimpers of pain, the eye turning a silent Gold.
“We could have been friends, real and true instead of just reasonably companionable acquaintances.” Kid sighed, releasing Hakuba's hand and placing it carefully back on the blond's stomach, gently patting it.
“But if things had been different, if I had never been the Kid, or you the famous detective, we wouldn't' be here. We never would have met. You would still be off in London...doing whatever stiff British brats do and I would be here, still annoying everyone.”
He reached up, gently brushing gloved fingers through Hakuba's hair, allowing a small smile to quirk his lips. “So I guess it's better this way. Even if you're not...here, you're still with me. And I'll find a way to get you back.”
The room grew silent, filled only with the soft hush of the machines. Kaito bowed his head, thoughts flowing in a silent prayer to whatever deities existed to watch over wayward thieves or injured detectives, hoping for an awnser, a way to get his friend (and annoyances) back.
The eye was still Gold, and the presence left Kaito very warm and almost comfortable, like a blanket that had been left by a roaring fire before being pulled against your skin. He let the soft smile return as he luxuriated in the warmth for a moment before standing.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, white wrapped box, the silver bow twinkling merrily from the dim outside lights as he set it next to the flowers and card from the Task Force, resiting the impulse to knock the card off the stand. He pulled out a black marker next, and leaned over, hand moving quickly through well practiced moves.
Smiling wider, almost smirking, he leaned back and studied his handiwork before winking at the characterture.
With a final look at Hakuba's body, he turned to the window, removing the latch and opening the glass before disappearing into the night.

Date: 2006-12-17 09:26 pm (UTC)Seriously though, it has to be hard, having someone that had been such a part of his life just...not be there anymore. Like Shinichi said, Saguru is there, but he's not there, and Kaito has to deal with that.

Date: 2006-12-21 04:53 am (UTC)Depends on the scene really. And their relationship to that point. You can do everything from a friendly peck on the cheek to more...fun types of kissing, and as for it being natural...well, sudden kisses are still natural, the welling of emotion until it just explodes into action.
I would have to see the before or "about to kiss him) scene itself to give any real help. But i think kaito should just...do it. Seize the moment
