I hate the phone company

We got this wireless router modem and adapter so that mum can have DSL on her computer.

Go to set it up, find out mum's memory is under the min requirements, call frontiernet, they say to set it up anyway.  Do so, find out it won't send a signal (du-UH), call back, they say it's a no go and to switch it so the modem is on HER computer, with the adapter on mine.

Do so, no signal, call BACK to tech support, spend another hour bsing with the machines, no go.  Lady tells me to walk around the house and try to find a signal.

Umm, no!  We can only have the computers in two specific spots so it won't matter if I get a signal in kitchen (or wherever) I can't put the computer in there. 

I (on my own) decide to add a second phone line JUST for mum's DSL, go through the whole speil (nother hour), am down to getting it done when ta da, they can't ad a second phone line to our accoutn and MUST have it in a seperate name.  (which confuses the hell out of me since we had a second line up until a few monthes ago, all on one account).

Try to get it put into my name, no go as I have no credit history (and I'm nto paying x amount of hundred of dollars to just get DSL..bastards).  So we try to get a repail man, tech support guy, anything who can help us with this.

Nope, end of the day everyone's gone home, piss on a grave (okay not quite but close enough).

I am so tired and stressed out, I burst into tears and had to have the phone taken away from me.

I just want my god damn DSL and my mother to get off my freaking back aobut wanting the internet now that she can't use AOL (doesn't work on the system she has).

I can't decide if I want to kill someone or sob...

didn't you just get a new computer yourself? does it meet the system requirements?

if so... set up the dsl to run on your computer, then use your computer as a hub for your mom's computer. google for info and networking advice, find something that may walk you through it, and if you can't find anything, look me up, i'll see if i can help with the process or anything.

did it. Still doesnt' send a proper signal. That was the second thing we tried.

hmm. i know there are some funky ways you can network and connect and tie many computers together. my mom finally got broadband last summer, and she wired one account through all of our computers. it went through, like, three different operating systems, too. talk about complicated.
