Okay they didn't, it was actually my memory but I forgot just how annoying Aurora is. I swear she's such a weakling that I had to struggle to keep watching the movie (an obvious reason why I hate Snow White). The only good thing about the movie is the romance and the fact that Prince Phillip has to be the second greatest prince Disney has created (next to Prince Eric...which reminds me, why do only two Disney princes have names? The rest are The Beast, Prince Charming and..uh...whatever Cindy's is though I think he's not even given a nickname until Cinderella II, but anyway)

So now that I have realized I've been living a princess lie I'm moving Belle up to my new favorite princess. At least she fights when needed.

Not that any of you all care but I just had to say it.

The point of Sleeping Beauty isn't that Aurora is strong, it's that love conquers all. Just keep reminding yourself of that as you watch the movie.

Belle has always been my favorite...and according to every single princess quiz I have taken, I am her. But now that they seem to include Tink in with the Princesses I'm not so sure.

Well Malificent is the coolest villian ever. Yes, I am Tink. I bought myself a new Tinkerbell shirt and Tinkerbell hair things last night. I need help. Or not...since I like my collection of Tinkerbell stuff.

You and my son, Connor, would get along just fine. He is SO into villains. It's hilarious. When asked who his best friend is, he usually answers "Jafar."

I don't really dig Disney villians, but I also *don't* dig Disney Princesses. I'm another Belle (I know, you've claimed her, but I was made an honorary Belle by the actual test at a Disney theme park - CA Adventure - so, there!) ::grin::. I do like Belle a lot, and I like Jasmine, too. Spunky. I used to love the Little Mermaid, but lately I've had issues with the whole "do what it takes to get your man" message. Not particularly something I'd like to see passed on to young people. What about honesty? What about integrity? Huh huh huh?

In any case, she's not really a Princess, but the one I'm definitely NOT is the one I'm named after - Wendy, from Peter Pan. Ugh. Well, I hate that whole movie, actually. Won't even let my son watch it, too repulsive. Loved "Return to Neverland," though.

Oh - and I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who wonders just what the heck the Beast's real name is. Weird that there's not one, but THREE movies out that feature him, and we don't ever get a name. Bugs me. Oh well. I'm not too bothered. He's not my type, anyway. Prince Eric is much cuter. ::grin::

LOL. Oh, you are SO right about Eric. I like him as eye candy. I wouldn't want to hook up with him. Did you see the Little Mermaid 2 movie? He's pretty lame, IIRC.

And yes, Aladdin is cool. He and Jasmine actually rock pretty hard together. Although I haven't seen the sequels to know if that continues, or if it only applies to the original film.

As for Beast, I actually like him better before he transforms. Maybe we just don't get enough depth of personality afterwards . . . I don't know. But I sorta like the whole Beauty and the Beast concept. Actually, I think this is why I love Snape so much (and, why I dig on the idea that he might be a vampire. He's rather "beastly" as it is, personality-wise. It would be so much better if he really was a "monster."). Remus, too, for that matter. The whole changing into a werewolf thing is not a problem for me. Although, I will admit that Beast being a beast all the time *is* a bit of a problem in terms of a physical relationship. Not an issue with Remus, definitely an issue with Beast before the spell is reversed.

Am I a sick woman? You don't have to answer that. Although I don't know how this would apply to real life. I didn't marry a beast - I married a "guy next door" sort of guy. Of course, I'm also not particularly happily married, so this isn't maybe a legitimate point. Maybe I'd be happier with someone a little more beastly? I honestly don't know.

As for other "romantic leads," I also like Tarzan and Jack Skellington (they both count, right? Even Jack?). Tarzan - wild man, looks pretty hot in his loin cloth, living in the jungle; all good. Jack - he's got a fantastic sense of humour, is capable of being truly psycho, but is, when all is said and done, actually a heck of a nice guy.

Can you tell I spend WAY too much time watching Disney movies? ::grin::

Oh - and here's something else. Back on the Wendy theme - but I must say I'm developing a bit of a thing for Captain Hook. For the longest time, I thought he was icky. Fruity clothes, what's with the wig? But have you seen the trailer for the new Peter Pan film? With Jason Isaacs? GGrrrooowwwlll! Oh dear. I think I'm going to be having some Captain Hook moments very soon.

Because I've always thought a Hook/Wendy ship is very appropriate. Well, maybe not a proper ship as it was surely non-con. But, for those who might like to contemplate such things, it works rather well, no? Like the icon? ::grin::

PETER/WENDY???????

GAH! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

::shudders violently::

Okay. Sorry for the overreaction there. I can't help it. I really was named after Wendy Darling (except that my daft mother wasn't cool enough to give me the middle name Darling, which I would have liked). And I have never ever ever liked Peter himself. So, the idea of Peter/Wendy is like shipping Peter/Myself.

::still shuddering violently::

However, if I take my own personal response out of it, I will admit that it's probably a safe canonical bet. ::grin:: Possibly one of the safer bets in all of literature. I think we're supposed to think they dig on one another, aren't we? ;-)

Jason Isaacs. Yes. Yummy. And, I tend to prefer brunettes to blondes, so I'm thinking his Hook may float my boat even more than his Lucius. And Lucius does some serious floating. This should be good. ::grin::

:-)
(Not) Wendy (Darling) - who is curious about the other ships that shall not be named. You're in no danger of shocking me, you know. I ship Crouch Sr/Winky, after all. Seriously.

as an at-times rabid feminist, i come across a lot of disney-bashing. somehow, i never had humongous issues with them...quite the contrary. disney is usually giving people what they want. and the princes have personalitites, either; it is the nature of a fairy tale to be this way. everyone can insert themselves into the story more easily and imagine themselves in a role, one that can be tweaked to meet personal preference. as for the comments some people make on cinderella and sleeping beauty, those movies came out AGES ago, in the fifties, right? what does it say about our culture that such images are still so cherished? as for the villains/strong chicks issues, take a look at The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Esmerelda kicks ass, possibly specifically because she *isn't* a 'princess.' Frollo was convincing, scary (what's worse than a self-righteous catholic with power?) and, in my opinion, consequently one of their best.

and, of course, there is Mulan. not princess. rather kick-ass. interpretations vary about whether or not she just 'gives it all up' at the end to live a domestic life with her 'man'--i would like to think she does not, or that if she does, we can accept her choice. that is what feminism is about--giving women choices. : )

who am i kidding here? no one will read back this far, lol.

Great. Now I'm having Snape missage and must go watch that movie again. Or read select chapters of OotP. I love my Severus.
